Kathryn Aten earned her Ph.D. in management at the University of Oregon. She received her bachelor's degree from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo and a master's degree from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. She also studied at the Universidad de Guadalajara and Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico. She currently teaches courses in technology management, entrepreneurship, and strategy. Her research explores the role of technology framing on the emergence and evolution of technology and innovation. She has presented papers at the Academy of Management National Meetings, the European Group for Organizational Studies, the West Coast Research Symposium on Technology Entrepreneurship, and the United Nations-sponsored Business as an Agent of World Benefit Forum. She has also published several journal articles and book chapters. Prior to her academic career, she worked in employee and management development for Apple Inc., Patagonia, Ralston Foods, and International Game Technology.
